Antoni Gaudi The Innovative Builder Who Is Still Building Today

I admire Antoni Gaudi, born 1852, in Reus, Catalonia. Antoni Gaudi is Spanish.

He is both architect and designer. Inspiration for his works come from marine life, seascape and the organic growth patterns of nature. His construction methods were highly innovative.

He integrates decorative elements of nautilus shells and fruits with the structure of trees and roots into his archtectural designs. His buildings look like sculptures of stone forest. Parts of his interiors look like crystal caves with myraid openings of multicoloured glass.

Antoni Gaudi organised his illustration of bible-stories with dramatic message of virtues and heroic sacrifices in surprising situated-niches of the Cathedral.

Antoni Gaudi incorporated wrought iron, excellent carpentry in fine furniture, stained glass, sculptures in wood, stones and metals, mosaics and ceramics into the construction of his buildings. He worked with some of the best artisans of his time.

Antoni Gaudi's masterpiece is the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. Began in 1883, it is still continuing in 2014.

It is estimated that the final completion of the project will be some time in 2026.

Here are some samples of Antoni Gaudi's mesmerising work.
We see Antoni Gaudi's boldness of vision

In Sagrada Familia,  Antoni Gaudi's passion is revealed.

That passion, fortunately,  is also shared by many talented women and men over a long, long time.

The surrounding artefacts and cultural richness of knowledge and expertise in Barcelona, nurture the continuity of a project of this magnitude over a time-frame of  more than a hundred years.
